Is Faith Reasonable?
Sam,
Hey, how are you? The reason I am writing is to give you some reasons to believe in God and the Christian faith. I remember when I was in High School I had many doubts about believing in Christianity. So in this brief letter I will give you a peek into some of the evidences that I try to share with those individuals whom want to know why to believe.
1) The Bible is a collection of 66 books written over a period of 1,500 years by more than 40 different authors, and these writers came from different backgrounds (fisherman, General, Prime Minister, etc.). These writers wrote from different places. The writings were composed on three different continents (Africa, Asia, and Europe) and in three different languages (Hebrew, Greek, and Aramaic). The Bible is in complete harmony, which cannot be explained by coincidence or collusion. God inspired these writers and that is why we can trust the Bible to be true.
2) People claim that there is no God. But like I explained to you last week everyone really has two choices. One choice is to believe that there is not a God and then when you die that is it. The second choice is to believe that there is a God, a reason to live. The easiest way to defend your position is to ask the atheist (a person who does not believe in God) “What if you’re wrong?”
Also, it is interesting to note that the more physicists (a person skilled in natural science) learn about the universe, the more it looks to be a put-up job. A question I would ask an atheist is, “How does a world go from total disorder to order?” Also, “Why does the earth have everything that we need to live?” My answer to that last question is because that is how God designed it!
This is just a brief letter to help you work through some of your doubts. Give me a call at the office if you have any questions. I would love to sit down with you and help you through the other questions you may have. Lastly, along with this letter is a handout with reasons to believe that what the Bible says is true. You may not understand all of it, but I think you will get the main stuff.
