 one life revolution
Letter sent to the Parents

April 9, 2008

Dear Parents,

Have you ever asked yourself the question, “Why is my child so selfish?” or pondered various ways of what you can do to get their eyes off of themselves and onto other people? I would bet most of you have. We live in a country that is very self absorbed and our youth have fallen victim to it. But there is hope—there is always hope.

One of the goals for our upcoming One Life Revolution youth group series is for students have an awareness of those in the world less fortunate. Through this series the leaders and I will be encouraging your child to help care for the people of Kipkaren, Kenya, Africa. Hopefully they will see the importance of serving others and begin to live the life Jesus wants from His followers, a life of service.

Our main objective for this series is to raise $15,000 (no, that is not a typo) for the children in Kipkaren, a village I personally visited in September 2007. This is a stretch for me and it will be a stretch for your child, but I believe that when we get out of our comfort zones, God will use us in a mighty way.

There is a private Christian school in Kipkaren where 100 elementary aged children from the orphanage attend.  There are also more than 200 children from the community who attend the same school.  This school, Brook of Faith, is truly an amazing place with caring teachers and administrators.  In addition, Brook of Faith is one of the most revered schools in the area.  But there are several improvements and additions this school needs to really excel in giving students a Christ centered education so they might continue the work of Jesus as they grow and mature.

Our One Life goal this year is to raise $15,000 to help improve the education of these children. The $15,000 will cover textbooks for an additional classroom, a school gate for security, and the leveling off of their playing field (you should see them when they have to chase balls down the hill). The organization we are working with is called Empowering Lives International (www.empoweringlives.org).

I believe when students are challenged with something they are passionate about, they can do amazing things. We believe your child has the potential to be a significant participant in raising the funds needed to help improve the lives of children across the globe.

I am asking that you, their parent/guardian, do everything you can to help inspire them in participating in One Life campaign. If you would like to participate, or if you have any questions, please contact me at the office at
924-5002.

One Life Revolution begins Tuesday, April 15 (high school) and Thursday, April 17 (middle school). We will conclude the series at our benefit concert Sunday, May 18.  I hope you will encourage your child’s participation and support in what could be a life changing experience.

Sincerely,

Pastor Bryan
