Devotions for October--Week 3
God Loves You:
Week Three
God has unconditional love for you. He loved you so much that he had his only son die on the cross for you. He wants to spend time with you because of that love. All that he asks is that you worship him and he will take care of all the rest.
All through Jesus’ ministry he was doing miracles. Perhaps one of his most famous ones was, the feeding of the five thousand. This takes place in Luke chapter 9. Jesus was being followed by a crowd of five thousand men, this does not count the women and children that were also there, when his apostles asked him to send the people to nearby villages so they could get food. However, Jesus said “you give them something to eat” (verse 13). But the apostles did not have enough food for these people, all they had were five loaves of bread and two fish. Jesus took the fish and bread and after giving thanks fed the five thousand.
God loves you. Jesus loved the people so much that he not only took care of their spiritual needs, but he also took care of their physical needs. He showed God’s love by feeding five thousand out of five loaves of bread and two fish. He wanted to take care of all of their needs because of his love for them.
14. What was Gods’ greatest demonstration of his love? 1 John 4:9-10
(Manifest means to show or make clear; propitiation or expiation means a payment that restores appreciation.)
GOD SO LOVED THE WORLD...
WHOEVER BELIEVES IN HIM
SHALL NOT PERISH BUT HAVE EVERLASTING LIFE
DEATH-----------------------------------LIFE
HE GAVE HIS ONLY SON
15. Study John 3:16 in relationship to the illustration above..
a. What did God’s love cause him to do?
b. What does it mean that God “gave” his Son?
c. How can a person receive eternal life?
16. In John 10:9-16, Jesus compares his love and concern to the love and concern of a shepherd. According to this passage, what are some of the things he wants to give you?
17. Which items that you listed in question 16 are most important to you?
Take a moment to pray. Thank God for all the things you listed in question 16. Specifically remember those which mean the most to you. Praise him that these things are given to you because of Jesus, and that you do not earn them by your actions.
